OK this may sound stupid but i just cant figure out the difference in the ifs hub and the solid axle hub please help;. maybe i  :beer: to much to see the difference. pictures would help a lot

Spline count.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

the IFS hub gears have 27 splines and are a slightly smaller diameter, like 1 inch where the solid axle hub gears are 1.3 inches and 30 spline.
the lockout body is the same with both

so i can not put a ifs hub on my 85 front end? the splines will not mach?

you will need to put the SA hub gear (internals) in your ifs body then it will work but with out the SA gears the bud will not slide over your axel an the ifs grar and axel are of smaller diameter than the solid axel  :thumbs:

do some more research but you need to machine the solid axle gear thinner so you can get the snap ring on. it works though and bobby long makes hub gears so you can run ifs bodies on a solid axle

thanks guys I'm starting to understand it now I think I'm going to upgrade to the ifs hubs has anybody had any issues in doing this convertion
