Efi or carb for the trail/dd
« on: Jan 13, 2011, 07:52:27 AM »
Just wondering what you guys though on running an efi setup (stock) or a carb set up (weber 38 or holley 390 truck avenger) on a trail rig that's still street legal. As far as terrain it'll see a little bit of everything and emissions doesn't matter if that helps.

Just need some opinions pros and cons to see what I want to run in my rig

thanks in advance

I generally prefer EFI but I love my stock '80 carb.  It is the smaller 190 cfm 20r carb.  It even runs well at angles.  I can get 22 mpg with small tires too!

Propane can be 100% street legal and in many states you can enjoy tax brakes for having a alternative fuel car.
If you see it, its for sale.

Pane will never pass in California, you will never pass the visual, If you do not pass the visual the SMOG tech will go no futher.

It's an 84 so i'd have to do a complete efi swap. And pane is an idea I never had. I could use all the carb stuff I have( head, intakes, cams, ect) and get the extreame angles of efi. Plus not have to worry about all kinds of tuning and whatnot to fit cam profiles and so on. And as far as street legal goes, im in south texas. so there's some propane laws for street use but being I'm also a state inspecter, I can pass it as a gas engine. As long as there is no propane tank in it at time of inspection.

Anyone know where I can get a good propane kit? To where I can run both pane and gas?

Thanks for all the input guys!
