Toyo mt's
« on: Oct 11, 2010, 06:06:08 PM »
So I'm looking for a new set of 37" s for my truck I'm looking for something for a dual purpose. I've read a bunch of stuff on hear about all the other tires but nothing about the toyo mts. I was just curious if anyone has had any experience with them. Thanks guys.

don't they only make a 14'50 or something really wide in a 37''?

looks like a 13.50 if your running 17's and a 14.50 if your running 15's.  on a 37, i wouldn't want to run wider than a 12.50.  i guess 13.50 wouldn't be too bad, but 14.50 is wider than i ever want to run.  if you don't mind the width, they are a great tire.  lots of good reviews on them.

I had a set on my YJ and did not care for them. They were surprisingly loud and didn't air down well. Hard as a rock. The one good thing about them is that they will last forever on the street because they are so hard. Good for 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks. You see a lot of full size diesels running them for a reason. I've since had Hankook Dynapro MT's and BFG Mud Terrain KM2's and liked them better, especially the BFG's.  :twocents:

my dad runs them on his jeep. after they broke in they air down fine, you just have to air down a lot to get a good bulge. the downside is that they are very heavy and more expensive then other tires. they last longer though

I just really don't want to have to buy new wheels. Not to sound stupid but what is wrong with wide tires?

So it sounds like the bfg km2 is the way to go. So I guess I run 35"s or buy new wheels for the 37"s. What size tire would you guys run with a 5.5" lift. I know I can clear 37"s. 35"s almost look to small.

excellent excellent tire..     who cares about road noise in an older 4x4..  the engine noise or wind whistling between the door seals will easily drown out any noise you would get from these tires..  providing you drive an older 4x4 that is. :gap:     they outlast any other mt tire out there, are better built and will be a great choice for a duel purpose truck..  especially if it is a duel purpose built 4x4..   tsl's or most any other interco product are good to great tires to get you through the trail but are a horrible tire to get you to the trail or to just drive around with..   if you ave to use this 4x4 for a lot of daily driving or street driving just in general, it will get real old right away when you are fighting your truck to keep it in and out of the ruts on the road..    i say go with some nice toyos, give them a chance to break in when you do wheel with them and they will be an excellent tire that you will probably buy again once you get through these tires..

and although the price is definitelly more upfront, think of it this way..  sure you spend more on a toyo over any other tire but you will easily get twice the life out of these tires over any interco product and i will even go so far to say mabey even 3 times the life out of these tires compared to any other purpose built 4x4 tire..  i have seen first hand what little life you get out of a set of tsl's and irocs when they are steet driven as compared to a toyo..

i am not trying to sound like a salesman, i am just being realistic..
the never ending build...

if you want to stick with a 15'' rim, i would go with 37x12.50x15 iroks.  if you go 17's, i would go with a 37x12.50x17 mtr.  new mtr's are the way to go if you have 17's for them.  just my  :twocents:

I'm currently running 37x14.5x15 and they are fantastic! Nice and quiet on the road and performs execellent off road! Yes they are heavy and more expensive. I spent almost 1600.00

I would purchase them again when I'm in need of tires.

How do you like the 14.5 width? Do you wish it was narrower some times?

I ran the 35 inch toyos on my last toyota and a buddy ran the old mtrs, in the same situations with similar rigs the mtrs typically did better.  That being said, I would look at the 37x 12.5x15 truxxus mt's,  similar tread as the toyos and mtrs but had some mean side lugs that both the others are lacking, especially the mtr.  just my .02

I run the 37x14.5 on my toy and attacked them with a hot knife. Now I think the tires perform a lot better and are a little lighter. Since I'm lazy I wouldn't buy them again just because of the amount of work it took to make them worth while. As a positive or negative however you look at it, they last forever. I want new tires but the wife says not untill these are trashed  :smack:

No...37x14.5 are great for me. It makes it harder for me to lose traction when i have ride nothing but sidewall. Not only that but my wheel spacers are only 1.5 so they work out great. The only flaw is that their a pain to ROTATE....LOL
