Clutch Issues
« on: Sep 01, 2010, 10:30:58 AM »
Hey guys i got a 79 yota. 20r 4spd. a couple of weeks ago i lost clutch pressure. so i replaced the slave and master and bleed it. i had pressure but it still wouldnt go in gear when the motor was running. i pulled the tranny got a new clutch kit. put it all back together. still wouldnt go in gear. ive tried ajusting the pedal and the slave. it will either not go in gear or the clutch will slip if its to far out. I am confused as hell :hammerhead: any ideas? the pedal is ajusted all the way out and its not in line with the break pedal like the original master cylinder put it. Please help its my daily driver and riding the bus to college sucks

i would take the master back.  they may given you the wrong part.  i forget which master cylinder it is(4cyl, v6, ifs, solid, etc), but there is one that has a shorter throw than the others and it doesn't push far enough.

Have someone watch the slave cylinder while you pump the clutch to see if the slave is getting a full throw.

Sounds like a candidate for the "You know you drive a Toyota when..." thread.    :ha_ha:

Glad you got it figured out.  Now go  :driving: :burnout:
