sas bumpstops?
« on: Jul 17, 2010, 10:43:19 PM »
i just picked up a sas 87 4runner and had a wierd question. im not new to the toyota scene i had an 81 pu about 4 years ago that i built up spool 35's the whole bit. anyway im new to the runner and the sas that was put on by the previous owner but i cant figure out one thing the bump stops that are welded to the frame. they seem to me to be more of  waste. they limit travel, so why are they there. i saw the same pieces in the marlin kit too. mine only has like 4in between the bumpstop on the fame and the one on the axle. thinking about cutting it off does anyone else out there run these things or does everyone leave them off. input would be nice.

Bump stops are there for a reason, so your springs will not go negative. Negative spring arch = broken/bent springs in the long run. Bump stops do not really limit your travel, once the spring/axle hit the bump stop the cantilever effect takes over. The other side will still droop down while the other side pivots on the bump stop, however the spring does not go negative..

ALso make sure you ramp your truck some how and look to make sure the spring is hitting the bumpstop before it goes negative. Make sure the bumpstop is not too long too, it might hit and the spring can actually go up higher too. Look at the front springs and rear springs.
