Carb Leaking Gas
« on: Oct 25, 2009, 10:29:02 AM »
Well since my dd 81 has a busted tie rod, i decided to work on my other 81 while I wait to find one. I got it running, but it runs rough. Engine shakes at an idle, and it wants to fall on its face if I rev it too fast. After looking at it a while, I noticed a spot where it leaks gas. This is part of the throttle linkage as it moves when I hit the gas. It is a very slow drip at idle, but if I rev it, I get 1-2 drops a second. I think this could be why it is wanting to die if I hit the gas. Its not timed perfect either, I cant get it to a shop to use a timing gun, cause the reg is out. But its good enough for now. The motor isnt in the best shape as far as plugs oil and wires go, but that doesnt seem to be the problem with why it doesnt rev, cause we swapped the ones from my dd, and it ran the same. I should also note it is running very rich, and i guess the previous smog attempt said the egr was plugged, so they say. Im not in a big hurry with this truck, i still got 100 bucks in reg fees to pay, plus my other truck is busted, but Id still like to get it fixed, ya know. Im including pictures from photobucket. The one with the yellow plug, is something thats not hooked up, but I cant find any unplugged lines. The other pic is where I am leaking gas from. I dont think its the rubber boot, i think its where the 2 plates meet. Thanks http://s492.photobucket.com/albums/rr290/sparkplug487/carb%20pics/
