definitely bob it!  I think all trucks and first gen 4runners that are off roaded should be bobbed.  I used a cutoff wheel for mine.

my truck - 12":

my 4runner - 12":

i have a short bed and i bobbed mine 16.5" and it was amazing in the difference i could even think about how much i would drag a long bed. and me and a buddy cut 19" out of his long bed and it looked good i will post pics of them after the next time were on the trails.

How many are willing to BOB a short bed? I can see taking about 6" off the rear. Any more and the shackles would look stupid? I really like the short look...

Dont bob it too much, basically 12" out of the bed would be plenty.

Bob it to the exact dimensions of a short bed that way you can still get a shell on it.

here's how mine looked after the body work was finished, but before the bumpers, sliders, and new dents were applied

took 12 out of mine and hacked the bottom on the first bed and loved it.
before

i will admit i got lazy on the bottom cause it was rusty and a pain in the butt to weld.

the new bed i cut a foot so i can run a topper and this one will be perfect.

with topper still under construction
not 4runner top but some retro topper i found local
87 longbed bobbed 12inches, locked, geared,Tacoma dash, 3rz swap Its a never ending project.

everything right behind the shackle and back i cut off. i drove it just cut for a while because i got lazy :( definatley bob it and put the rest of the bed back on. you get a tail gate and the stock lights. and the longer wheel base which is better i think.
3rz in the making
