Possible tow rig project
« on: Nov 15, 2009, 11:33:19 PM »
Yea yea, I need another project about as much as I really need a tow rig, but if I can get close to 20 mpg out of the 4by then I could sell the 2wd and better justify buying a tow rig.

I love these.  Saw this on craigslist and had to ask a few questions.  Still waiting to hear back, but I like the way it looks in the tiny pics, and it seems like the guy is being honest enough in the ad.  http://chico.craigslist.org/cto/1467766804.html

Wow, my first truck was a 71 GMC that I painted almost that same color! really brings back some memories.

:( I miss that truck.

All mine had was an olds 307 with a th350.

I cant tell is that a 1/2 or a 3/4 ton?  on the sticker in the glove box on mine my truck was ordered with leafs in the rear but most I have seen have had coils with radius arms. I dont know if the  3/4 tons are different though.
There is a fine line between clever and stupid, I just wish I knew when I crossed it.

Yea, I don't know if all of them had coils, but I know some half tons came with coils in the rear and actually rode pretty smooth.  3/4 ton and up had leafs, but it'd be cool if they had coils!  I assumed it was a 3/4 ton since it was a bb truck, but I can't remember if they told me or not.

This is what they emailed me:  Needs rear bumper, some interior parts, and side markers.  It does run and drive, needs to be trailered.

I guess I need to ask if it's 1/2 or 3/4, but even if it were a heavy half I'd be ok with it.  Biggest things are how it runs, current reg, no rust or substantial cancer, and price!

Since it is a tow rig as long as it gets 10mpg ish it will be fine.  A BB chevy 300+hp and 400+ftlbs tq and it will be fine.  Maybe a 4l80e swap would help with mileage?
