what do you mean for that money?  all you gotta buy is some wire and butt connectors or solder so you can extend some wires if need be.  i did it on my old crx, it hardly cost anything, just some time.   like i said i dont want my engine bay to look completely spotless like the one in the picture.  i was just looking at my engine bay the other night and realizing how many worthless wires and plugs are hangin everywhere.  i dont use most of them so i thought it would be nice to clean it up a bit.

Thats the one thing about the 2/3rz motors.  Toyota cleaned up the wiring mess.

My theory is, leave it alone if it works!  That way if you have a electrical problem, you can trace down the wire with a FSM schematic, and not try to guess where this spliced wire goes.

well like i said i am not doing it to look super pretty or for show, i just want to clear up my engine bay and get rid of all the wires i dont need.   maybe you guys dont realize how much extra harness and plugs and crap i dont need!  i have a carbed 84, it is completely de smogged with a weber carb.  therefore i have lots of extra plugs i dont need. also the wiring harness is made for A/C and i dont have A/C.  i also dont have any turn signals or marker lights, that leaves alot of extra wires not being used!!  i dont necessarily have to "tuck" all the wires out of sight, just clean it up ALOT.

yeah i think you could clean it up alot and still make it easy to work on. a desmogged carb engine would even be easier. i want to clean up the wiring even on my 79. extra wires going everywhere kind of blows the feng-shu.

yeah it could deffinately be cleaned up alot.  i think you are the only one to understand that so far!   everyone just immediately thought i am trying to make a show quality engine bay, and thats not the case.

I like mine just like the schematics show, that way I know what is where. I do like a clean engine compartment but I'm just referring to not being dirty or oily.

factory wiring good.. but theres a few things I'd change on my own rig. mostly simple stuff that really wouldn't effect the schematics. the way the starter wires slop down the fender well could be better. the vacuum switch wires could be removed and cut with a short wire and connector under the dash. the way the distributor to coil wires are, could be improved. i also plan on removing the old 40amp alt with it's external voltage reg and replacing it with a 60 amp newer yota alt with internal regulator. all my wires are old and messed with, so i don't feel bad doing a few mods.

When I melted the wiring for my glow plugs I opted to get a used harness. I took the chance and spliced some length of wire to the wiring for the engine sensors and starter. That way I could wrap it all up in split loom and "tuck" it. I just routed it in such a way that it was not near the hottest engine components and out of sight. By tearing my old harness apart I was able to splice the harness with the same color and size wires as in the schematics.

If you do this you should get a used engine harness to source for wires. YouŽll probably have some left over to use when you add some wiring to your dash or something. Then you have black and white grounds, green wires for parking light related things and so on.

LOL my car friends talk about these, I think they are kindof  :stopit:. What happens when you need to diagnose a wiring problem with it. Where do the wires go? in your fenderwells where they will get pounded with debris. altough a wire tuck looks simple its more simple to have wires running around your motor to the sensors where you can get at them.

actually most of the time the wires get ran inside the inner structure so they dont get pounded with debris.  an engine bay wire tuck is just like the wiring inside of the vehicle.  you dont want wires running all over hell creating a cluster f*** inside the vehicle, therefore the wires are all loomed and "tucked" behind the dash and behind interior plastic panels.   there is hardly ever a time when i have had to mess with wiring in the main harness behind the dash. so with that being said i guess the basic concept to an engine bay wire tuck, would be to create the same clean look that the interior of a vehicle has.  i do agree that diagnosis of a wiring problem could be difficult, but when doing a tuck you are basically building a brand new harness. so if it is done properly there should'nt be any problems to diagnose.
