Exhaust manifold question
« on: Jan 23, 2009, 06:50:12 PM »
Don't pipe up if you don't know  ;)  A friend in another town needs a stock exhaust manifold for his 89 22re, I have one from an 86 but we're not sure if the exhaust ports are the same.  I was thinking they were the same from 85-95, am I right  :dunno:

some of the earlier 22re exhaust manifolds have a port for the O2 sensor on them which might have to be plugged. My buddies 87 runner had this....
22RE .30 over, mild cam, K&N, LCE header, 2.25'' pipe, high flow cat, Magnaflow.
 Marlin 1200LB clutch

 no substitute for 4wheel drive.

Yes, the same.

Yes it has to be plugged. The manifold on my 89 was cracked & I used one from an early 22RE & left the 02 sensor in it to keep the hole plugged. I went to somg it & it wouldn't pass. I had to  :flamer: a cap to plug the 02 senosr at the manifold cause the 89 02 senosr is mounted down further under the truck. I used an old 02 sensor, cut the sensor off & welded the hole shut. Just passed smog last month.

Pretty sure we got it worked out.  The manifold I had had the 02 sensor on it, but he needed one without.  I remembered I had another one off an 88 or 89, found it and it didn't have the 02 hole, just the boss where it would have been.  I really hope it works for you chris  :crossed:

Oh yea, if you end up needing the tubes let me know and I'll figure out a way to get them down to chico
