New LCD monitor help!!
« on: Oct 19, 2008, 08:53:21 AM »
Ok, our CRT monitor died on us!  And we had to use our old CRT monitor, and that just wasn't gonna cut it, since it has issues.  So, we look around, and I really love the CRT monitors, but they are big and bulky, but nobody makes them anymore.  I was told by several guys on another forum that does pictures professionally, to get the Dell's 19" or 22" ones.  Consumer Reports rated them best in their price range.  So, we get this 19" from Best Buy for $180.  Looked great on display.  Get it home, plug it in, and the screen looked washed out, and it's pain in the ass the get things aligned and in phase!!  I can live with most of that!

The one thing that is PISSING off the wife is the widescreen aspect.  Its stretching out the picture and we can't adjust it.  She wants me to take it back right now!

Help me!
FRUSTRATED

I have a Dell 19" and love it. The bad thing about widescreen is you need to change your back drops to the aspect ratio. I'm running at 1440x900. Tell your wife she will get used to it. As for being washed out, have you installed the drivers for the monitor?

OK!!  We I just finally figured out alot of the issues,  :smack:  but the pic is washed out more than I like!!  But I knew I was sacrificing some stuff for being on a budget!

So, we aren't taking it back!!   ;)

you should be able to dial it in with the monitor settings. Look for a menu button on your monitor.

We kept trying to change some settings in the tower, but instead of clicking "APPLY" we were clicking on "OK".    :dunce:
But after an entire day of driving all over Portland shopping, and a wedding that took forever, no it wasn't a Catholic wedding.  And by the time I got home, and started playing with the monitor, then getting a headache didn't help.  And basically right after I posted this post, I figured out the error of my ways!  :smack:

Now, the picture is awesome and looks great.  And the amount of room we gained on the desk is incredible.
