5.29's too low?
« on: Jun 27, 2008, 08:40:20 PM »
Are 5.29's too low for the highway, to go like 75-80 mph? These would go on a DD, would 4.88's be better? These are 35" tires.

5.29s are great on the freeway, in fact I think it would be even better if I had 37s, I usually cruise on the freeway at about 70 mph, 5th gear, around 2,500 rpms

yep, 529's are the way to go they almost put you back to stock power, I would only go with 488's if you only drive on flat land with no hills. Top speed really depends on how healthy your moter is

that is with a tire that is a true 33 inches... most 33s measure no where near 33 inches tall

Speed is directly related to engine RPM through gearing and stuff... look around there are plenty of places where you can find either a converter or the formula to figure it out with.

i would say i was at about 3500rpm, it seemed like i was going faster up the hill, yeah my 33s were pretty worn out, they were temporary tires.......

ok, 3500 is NOT  wound out,  3500 is  the peak torque band, well 3200-3500,   a 22r has its best power and  actually  economy at 3500,

fwiw  "wound out"   is  more like 5000 :disturbed:

im currently running 33s (that are 32.5" tall) and 5.29s...on the freeway 65mph is 3000rpm in 5th gear on flat ground.  the fastest ive gone is 85-90, and thats fukking intense, at like 4000-4500.  my engine wont go past 5000, anything past 4500 is pointless.  but I have a stock cam also. 3000 is definatley where my engine has the most power.  i get awful gas mileage, but that may be because of old bottom end internals in my engine.
i cant wait to get 35s or 36s or 37s, havent decided yet which size ill go with.
82 hilux, bobbed, really fast 22r, 2 transfer cases, ARB's, 5.29's, 37" MTR's. Custom everything.
