i used a brush on my frame  but DID NOT  thin the paint,  when it dried it looked like a hard plastic shell

i might  do the same  to the entire truck

Start by pouring the paint on top of the cab & work your way down to the doors, hood, bed & tailgate. All the extra paint will just run off on to the ground & you won't get those brush marks.   :twocents:

Air brush would take forever.  you would want a spray gun and a single stage paint (cheapest) for a decent job.  The sponge will leave texture marks, artists use that technique for a desired effect.  Have fun.   I am wanting to paint my runner soon.

I have experience with this method, and you need to make sure your windows are rolled down in the off chance that some of the paint may go out of its lines and get on the window. :twocents:

:rofl2:

Also I forgot to add that you need a razor blade to cut through the dry paint so you can open the doors, hood & tailgate.

Fontucky Fab is one time painting your truck doesn't work so well.   Get a simple sprayer - it's a godsend for this sort of thing.

Read this: http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=2331682&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1

And then when you're done with that, find the second or third thread that continued after that.

Also, this has lots of good info: http://ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57181

When the time comes, I plan on using boat paint. The good stuff is called Interlux Brightside. You use foam rollers, and take your time. Thin, multiple coats are the key.

I have seen a roller paint job before. It looks good until you walk up to it  :twocents:

Post pic's from far & near. I want to see the end result of the paint finish. Also, how much time & money you spend.

Like I said, I'd even take one of those Wagner portable paint sprayers that you find a Home Depot over a roller.

If you would rather role paint on, just use a role on bed liner. Line the whole truck. Seen that done an its not to bad.

oh yeah.  forgot about that... sec...

http://www.nonslipcoating.com/
Best stuff that I know of for this sort of thing - that you can apply yourself.

Note - you will need a respirator and head to toe cover(welds itself to skin, metal, wood, concrete, glass, and probably even The Pope isn't immune to it.) - it's highly volatile.  Cleanup is with xylene, which is nasty nasty stuff, hence the respirator.(or just don't clean up - lol)  But it's only $90 a gallon.

http://www.nonslipcoating.com/smooth-durabak.htm
Stuff doesn't fade and has color throughout, so scratches are the same color/fade in.

http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/techarticles/body/131_0602_1972_chevy_truck_paint_on_bedliner/index.html
Original article - quite funny.  As noted, everything it touches stays that color.  Wheels, suspension parts, chrome...  lol.  So mask like crazy.

2 gallons should be enough.  Or you can get the gritty stuff - about 3 gallons worth for that bed liner look.  2 color is of course highly recommended.

This is what I got on one of my trucks. Not bad stuff, easy to shoot and I think its got a lil better texter to it then most bed liners. I think it compares to mybe Line-X. Little bit smoother texter and not as rubbery. You can add just about any basic color you want to it as well. Probably about the same stuff as this nonslipcoating. Took me about 2 gal to do mine.

I used good spray paint the graffiti artist use,its from Germany.. Montana and Belton use good powder pigment's for there colors and its much more durable for rattle can paint.I also use special tips that spray 1 inch to 2 inch line's.just go nice and easy and multiple coats.I also used Krylon primer for under coats...Then again Rusto is getting better in there colors.but i use that for the frame
I'm not responsable for my own action's.

The interlux roller method seems to be about 10X more work than you really should be doing on a 4by!  You have to do so many coats, sanding between each to remove the tiny bubbles you get from the foam roler, just to get the finish you could get by spraying on a couple or so coats, and that paint isn't cheap either!  The $15 harbor freight guns will do a good job if you know how to spray, but you can also get additives to throw in the paint that will help it smooth out as it sets up.  I'm sure you have a friend who'll let you borrow a compressor, but if not they're usually all over craigslist for cheap.

Remember, a short cut isn't a short cut when you have to go further
