External Alt Regulator Location for a 1980 toy
« on: Apr 23, 2008, 07:44:29 AM »
Ok, I was asked in the shoutbox where the external regulator (for the alt) is for a 1980 toy. He does not know if it has a newer style internally regulated alt or not, becuase he was not the one that swapped in the newer motor. He is having over charging problems. Yes I did search, and didn't come up with much.

 1. i would get a manual so I could identify/location of the part i was looking for.

Then if it was there or not  that would tell me if it was external or internal.

Then  pulll the alt or regulator  take it 2 a auto parts store 2 be tested

its the black doohickey,on the left side, wait I mean on the right side if you are looking at the engine compartment, with the green thing, with some wire thingies coming out of it,it bolts to the inside of the wheel well,it looks alot, like an external voltage regulator,or a small black box, near the ignition exciter, that takes the place of the coil, what were we talking about again?

Thank you for the help Glen!

Also, I think my new truck has the same graphics on the side as yours in your display pic, Jeff. :offtopic:

Problem solved I did not have to remove the alti. I had to unplug a wire harness that has 6 wires like stated above and one wire runs to a silencer just unplug it OR get a new one like I did in my case and use a 12 mm socket and take out two bolts you will need to know if it is either a 5 plug or a 6 plug this is done by counting the little prongs on the inside of the weather cover   installation is in reverse of removal   IT is very easy and on a scale of difficulty i would have to rate this as a 1
