I got this 1987 2WD carbureted Toyota from a friend that wrecked it and the engine was still good and it smogged a few months before, so I put it in my 82 4x4. The cach though was that the 2WD truck was an automatic, and when I put the motor in my truck I took off the auto and put on my 4 speed.
I took it straight to smog and it passed easily. But what was happening at the time was that it would start missing throughout the driving range a while after it was warmed up. Like when I was doing the pre-smog it ran awesome, and then I turned it off and permitted the guy to smog it. While he was testing it, it started missing very noticably through all RPM ranges. But it still passed.

A week later I decided to check the timing, and it was at 0*, so I set it to 8* and messed with the idle, take note that it was an engine with an auto tranny so there are a few mecahnical motor differnces.
Now the engine is missing again and the idle is really wierd.

I dont know if this is normal, but I start it in the mornings, and if I dont press the throttle, it'll idle at about 600-700 RPM. But on cold days I have to pump the gas twice to get it to start. Thats when the idle will gradually rise to about 2400 RPMs and settle down after about 7 minutes to around 800 RPM.
Then I will drive it at about 25 MPH in 3rd and push in the clutch to stop and it takes a second or two for the idle to go back down to normal. But say I decide to mash the pedal in 1st and bring it up to about 3500 RPM and then shift and cruise or drive or whatever. But when I push in the clutch while slowing down to about 1500 RPM to stop, the idle will go up to about 2500 like the fast idle cam is engaging or something.
I dont know if this is normal operation. Could it be doing this because it came off of an Auto matic truck? Could someone please tell me if this is wrong and what should I do about it? Thanks
