Guys I have adjusted my valves about 4 times in the last 3000 miles. I keep having to tighten them up to 8 and 12 because they start chattering so bad and the truck runs sluggish, after they are adjusted it runs good for a week or so nice and quiet. I have a bigger cam in this motor would that make it noisy? please help?

what cam do you have , kinda sounds like the adjusters are breaking the tips off

I dont know exactly what cam it is the guy I bought the engine from said it had a rv cam and oversized valves in it. any ideas?

no they are not.
id ask the guy you bought it from what they are.

maybe a warranty issue here.

the bad part is this is a freshly remanufactured motor supposedly with a brand new head and big cam and oversize valves. I purchased from oregon engine rebuilders. I have been waiting to contact them to see if I could get this resolved I will be contacting them today.

I emailed the company I bought the engine from hopefully they know what is wrong and will help me fix it.

Are they all coming loose or just one or two certain one? Not sure on why they'd be coming loose other then the lock nut not being tight enough. Or something is cracked and/or breaking, but I'd thing that would have been noticeable by now. If you don't have a stock cam in it then did they send you the valve adjustment specs? They're usually different then shock specs.

You definitely have to be careful who you buy engines from. Especially if it's from out of town, state, etc. I got one once (don't remember the company) and one of the rockerarms was barely on the valve spring. The rocker and the spacer were put on in the reverse order. A simple fix, and the engine did ran good, so no real complant. But if you think about it, if miss a small mistake like that then you never know what else they might have missed. I'm just glad I noticed it before installing the engine cuz I'm something would have broke. Although I did end up having to pull the head off after a few months cuz it was bad.

425 intake and 440 exhaust lift I think

I talked to the mechanic at oregon engine rebuilders and he told me I must of adjusted the rockers wrong and this made the cam lobes go flat. I am gonna have somebody look at the cam, but I know the rockers have been adjusted correctly everytime so I dont know what to do. He said they should be adjusted at 8 and 12.

id replace that cam, adjust it to that cam, and adjust the timing accordingly... and about 3* adv. is pretty good on a cam'd 22REi believe.

The cam is flattening out john from oregon engines is sending me a new cam and rockers. I am trying to figure out why cam went bad, only 4000 miles on engine.
