Lots of valvetrain chatter around 3500rpm
« on: Apr 23, 2005, 11:42:37 AM »
Right as I get close to 3500 I have very loud and obvious chatter, as the RPMs climb from there it only gets worse.  I haven't taken it above 4k since it's been doing this.  Do my valves just need to be readjusted?  Or am I not getting enough oil on my valvetrain?

sounds like a timing chain too loose  and has jumped a tooth throwing the ignition timingout of range,   pull the valve cover and check to see how tight the chain is

if its loose you will need to replace the chain tensioner and guides

also some times the timing chain can sound like a valve noise( tick tick tick)  how many miles U got ?  and when was the last time it was done.
also do U get a pinging when accelerating?

Look at my avatar   thats my bottum T-gear    6 teeth wasted  that thing make a hell of a noise I wasn't shore what it was at first,  it came and went  for a while till it was constant.

I haven't noticed a pinging.  If I'm cruising, lift on the gas, and get back on it just a hair, I get a lot of chatter and rattling.  But once it passes 3k, it gets progressively louder.

What could it be other then timing chain?  I just replaced the head, I thought it was noisy because of new springs and what not.

could be lower end,,wrist pin noise,,,could be loose valve but seems like you would notice the clatter at idle too..

whats your oil pressure like?maybe the timing chain tensioner is not holding the chain tight or your broke a chain guide..did you put the cheap plastic guides in or the bomb shell steel backed guides?
Forgiveness is between them and god..
Its my job to arrange the meeting!
