Ingnition switch help
« on: Jan 19, 2008, 01:57:28 PM »
I am transplating a 22RE out of a 86 4runner into my 83. I am swaping the wiring harness completely out of the donor. my question is the ingnition switch...the one in the 4 runner is messed up and I would like to us the one in my 83, my question is that the 86 has 7 wires plus 2 in a different connector. The 83 has a total of 6. I have pulled the pins out and swapped the 4 main wire that matched on both....what are the other 3 brown ones for? they say ST2, IG2 and something else. can I get by without usinf them?

My wiring diagram shows 7 wires on the 86 ignition switch....

2 inputs.

1st input wire color: W and powers ACC, IG1 & ST1 and is powered by main fuse AM1 (40amp).    Wiring colors   ACC: L-R  IG1: B-Y   ST1: B-W

2nd input is from main fuse AM2 (30amp): wiring color: W-R    this powers IG2 and ST2.    IG2 color is B-R, ST2 not used.

Looks like they're splitting the ignition load.    You could always have the switch turn on a relay so the relay gets the load...........
