NEED HELP...and i need it fast
« on: Dec 05, 2007, 09:17:32 PM »
i have an 86 pickup...Tonight the clutch pedal went darn near dead, making it almost impossible to shift into gear.  I figure its the slave cylinder.  I checked the fluid resivour, and its about 1/3 of the way full. Is that LOW enough to where iit would cause the slave to stop working?  Sometimes it will go into gear..and other times it wont.  I was trying to shift from 2nd to 3rd, and i coudlnt.  I actually had to pull over to let traffic by!  What is the deal?

look under the dash and see if  there   fluid running down the firewall,  if so  you need a master cylinder,   look under the truck  and  feel around on the rubber  boot  where the slave rod  goes in  if you get fluid there you need a new slave

one or possibly both  just went bad

no fluid on the inside on the firewall or near the clutch pedal.  There is a good amount of oil on the belly of the beast though.  Today i went out and started it....clutch goes right to the floor.

Refill the MC on the clutch, bleed the system out, and see how it shifts. It sounds like your fluid level went down, and finally got low enough to suck air. If you bleed it out and the pedal still goes to the floor, I would have to suspect the pressure plate (bent or broken fingers), or you may have a problem with the shift fork.
It ain't worth doin' if you don't have to clean up afterwards!

Build it, break it, fix it, repeat until your wallet is empty.

MOST of the undercarriage is covered in oil.  Seems to be leaking from aronud the front of the bellhousing...wich is where the SLAVE is.  Not to mention, ic hecked my fluid in the slave resivoir under the hood..about 1/3 of the way full. So im guessing the slave is shot and leaking oil.

It could also be a broke hard line at the slave. I had mine break when i was on the freeway and lost my clutch. Pretty lame but when there old they get brittle.

yea...if i put the clutch in at a stop and can manage to get it into gear, the truck still moves real slow.  Lik ein first with the clutch in, the truck still moves foward.

On mine the double flair broke off. I still had some pedal on and off then it lost all the fluid.
