What year and kind of instument panel is in your dash. I might be in for the same conversion on my 4runner. do you think there would be enough room for a 5.3 vortec v8 ? Do you think a instrument panel from a fullsize truck would fit in my dash? Would I be able to wire up all the accessories like air cond.,cruise control, delay wipers,etc...?  All information is appreciated.

01' blazer instrument cluster, yes 5.3 will fit, you will have to use electric fan and if you want to have provisions to run all those cool accessories you'll probably need to have a complete donor harness out of vehicle w/ steering column & gauges. & yes guage cluster out of full size is identical. you'll need helms service manuals if you plan on doing this ( to know what all those damn wires do!!)

How well did the chevy steering column and gauges fit in the toyota? I'm thinking of doing the same conversion. Does the 4.3 engines have plenty power for mudboggin with 38" tires and 5.29 gears on a toy? I can use all the info I get.        Thankyou

Had  to do some mod's to get that column into toy.   I think a 4.3 vortec would turn 38's no problem !! gotta remember horsepower-weight ratio!!  200hp in a 2600 to 2800 pound truck is gonna do great . will post a pic of steering column & more info tomorrow.       also ....I haven't finished  dash I've never seen one done like this in a toy, but it does fit

I finally got the 84 to the shop for its 4.3 swap.  Its getting a 2001 w/10 yes 10 miles on it!  Thankfully it will keep the toy 5 speed and gettin a custom harness.  What radiator did you use?  Looks like it fits pretty good.  Im trying to get some good ideas before its torn apart and in the way.
Thanx

that radiator came out of a fullsize w/ a 4.3 (1993 cheyenne 2wd SC / LB halfton)   it's only a 2 core but it fits perfect betweeen ifs box and pass. fenderwell. so far have had no overheating probs.
however I haven't run truck much. did idle for 30 min @ 90 degrees out and it stayed at 195' (factory therm.)

put some pic's of this 4.3 / 5 spd swap  :eyebrow:

The Bad boy is fired and rattling the paint cans in the garage!!!!
If you use a pre 1996 motor  your going to have to have a custom $400 computer made or you can make your 2001 motor into a 1996 . I made my 99' into a 96' because you can get the computer almost any where. I only found only one guy that can mod the computer. So he can set the price to whatever he wants.  Another issue if you use a Toyota five speed is you have to use a 153 tooth flywheel no big deal bolts right on. Then you put on the AA bell housing no big .  Then you go look for a starter that is not made and can not be made!!!! That's right the bolt pattern you are looking for is a offset pattern and that starter was never made for a 153 tooth flywheel !!!  So this is what you have to do. Get a starter for a 1984 camaro with a 305 motor. It has a 153 flywheel. It is a straight across bolt pattern. On the back of the motor you will see a boss that GM did not drill and  tap, bolt up the starter with the fly wheel on , use the one bolt hole that works then prick punch through the other starter hole, remove starter drill and tap be sure the shim starter , and your done. If you have any questions call me at Marlin's ask for Dean. I'll post some pic's of the starter installed.

I have a 99 vortec with a 4l60e to dual cases. Its in the truck and ready to wire. a few questions. What fuel pumps are running (preferably in line.) What are you doing about 02 sensors? are you running a cat? What other wiring problems are running into ? Thanks for any help i'll post up some pics. Sorry to bring this from the dead.

I used the factory o2 sensors out of the 01 blazer, and the factory fuel pump. (pump from 98 chevy truck mounted in toyota tank)
I've had no problems with the vortec other than fuel pump wiring.  DO NOT USE BUTT-CONNECTORS, SOLDER ALL WIRES THAT ARE NOT FACTORY PLUGS!!!

I am pro- toyota all the way but the 3.4 conversion would have been way more$$ and my sfi 4.3 makes more power than the 3rz

man I am freakin jealous. I am deploying soon but when i come back i think I am going for the 4.3. i have a semi built up 22re and i hate it. there is this huge hill that every time i want to go to north i have to drive back up. it is long and steep. i hit 3rd gear at the top and I am tired of it. i think part of it is my gears(4:88 w/ 35" tires) but i cant see lower gears making that big of a difference when it comes to the long hills we have around here (805) central coast cali.
i cant see a 2.7 being able to keep up with a 4.3 that has all the bolt ons (headers, full exhaust, kn&n, bigger TB)
good job
got another 85 runner. build coming soon!!
