bought some used alcan springs. now im stuck
« on: Oct 07, 2007, 08:12:11 AM »
i installed them in the stock location with some lift shackles.  they sit way far back.  my rear tires are like 2+ inches too far back.  and my drive shaft seperated while i was putting them on .  the rear shackle is leaning like at a 33 degree angle.  soo  do i need to relocate the the spring hangers??  if so who sell them ?  do i just need to move the front hanger?

What's the length difference between the two springs?  Any lift in the used Alcans?  I would recommend moving/getting the front spring hanger.  Especially if they are longer!

Two questions:
Are you sure they are in right?  I.e. did you install them backwards accidentally?
Are you sure they are rears?
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

This is a set of rear springs to fit a first gen 4runner. They provide 5" of lift and are set up for +300lbs of load over stock. They include the anti-wrap spring as well.

These springs were run by Steve Sasaki for about three months before he replaced them to run a sponsor's spring at Ultimate Adventure.

these are 5 inch lift springs u cant install them in the stock location! they are probably 8 inches longer than stock...time to bust out the welder! :flamer: you'll probably need some longer shocks and a longer brake line.

right on iwas told the stock hangers where used on these but i guess not, hah.  im trying to get this thing ready to tow to an exhaust shop so i just thru some add aleaves on today with the stock springs.  it sits about even with the 44044's and i swaped in longer brake lines and im using the stock shocks for now.  i have r99012's all the way around waiting in my garage. but i need to get to a place that has 220v so i can weld my shock hoops front and rear and  now the new spring hangers.  thanks for the info everyone!

you dont have to have a 220 socket to make an extension cord....as long as you have (2) 110 outlets near each other on seperate fuses you can make a cord...

A buddy of mine has Alcan's, he had to move the front hangers forward. I'm surprised the guy that sold them to you didn't mention that. Alcan sells them in a kit, here's a link for you. Maybe they can help you better.
