Another FNG.

I've been on here for I don't know how long, mostly lurking, reading, using that thing called the search function, and have talked to 79coyotefrg a couple times on AIM. I have a '98 Tacoma that I've wheeled the hell out of for the past two years, and realized it's not what I want. To put it simply, I'd rather have an older rig so I can take advantage of the enormous aftermarket support that Marlin offers. So it'll be up for sale soon if anyone wants a regular cab that's ripe for D44'ing. Anyway... I'm looking at an '84 X-cab that needs new felts and a clutch. It has 33's and some sweet lift springs that resemble a handlebar moustache. It's a Cali truck, and at $1500, I can't really complain considering what these things go for in the SLC area.
I'm 29, in the USAF stationed at Hill AFB in Utah, and will be deploying fairly soon. When I get back, I'm planning on Marlin's 4" lift kit, 35's, the ultimate crawler setup, dual e-lockers with 5.29's, and a 4.3 CPI swap.
I look forward to learning from you guys and sharing what I know.

1500 is a good deal if the truck is in decent shape.

It's a Cali truck, so there's no rust to speak of on the bed or cab. The usual dents and crap, but not rotted out like the north east rigs.

from Lake Havasu, AZ. Nice truck. I have the same year, extended cab. Picked mine up for 1300, had a brand new motor and new 31's, but it was tipped on its side. O well, big plans for her. Your rig will be awesome when it is all said and done. Good luck with everything.

Thanks guys! I'm pretty impressed with how smooth things are over here. I've done some Pirating, and it just really wasn't my cup of tea.
So anyway... I started working on the logistics of that Cali truck and it just wasn't working out for me, so I picked an '81 up locally for $1500. Frame's immaculate, has AC and a tach, and a five speed... that's an SR5, right? It's a hoot, and the carb isn't as bad as I thought it'd be. It has a 4" lift and came with 33" BFG AT POS's, so I threw the 33's and wheels from my Taco on it. The bad thing is that it still has the 3.90's and the 4" lift is all add-a-leaf, so there's next to no flex. The good is that it has aftermarket shocks that are almost compressed all the way, so I know there's a good bit more in there, and the rear shocks are done center mount style, so I pretty much just need some leafs and a high steer. I'm probably going to do gears and lockers first, though, because this thing is geared WAAAAYYYY too tall right now.
And yes, it has all the grille/ headlight surround plastic bits... I'm going to build a bumper before I put them on.
