Fun country 2s, Cooper MT or ?
« on: Aug 12, 2007, 01:19:12 PM »
Just thought I would finely post a question after lurking around for quite a while.
I'm looking at buying  some new tires in about 8 weeks right now I am running
33 12.5 15 Good Year Mtr's on my DD. I like like the tires but would like more
mileage out of them ( 25k ) I am looking at the fun country 2s or the Copper
new mt tires. I was told that you can get about 50-k out of these tires.
I would like to get your opinion on or other tires to look at.
 Thanks for the help Bill

I don't think you will get 50K out of any mud terrains unless you run them until they are bald.  You might try an all terrain.

I got well over 40k miles out of my last set of coopers.  Been very happy with them and would buy another set before the cepecs.

I would also do the coopers before the cepecs for milage, just for another tire to think about, just the BFG mud tarrain are a good milage tire for an M/T if thats what you want to stick with. Boring looking tire though.

I have ran the BFG At Before But I do not like the tread pattern or the squared edges.
The coopers run $217.oo per. that is more then I want to spend. I was looking at the
Tire Rack and they havE A kumho m/t that looks good for about $160.00 but I have
not heard anything about then.I will be going out this weekend to look at tires.
 Thanks Bill

I've known a few people who ran kumhos and they liked them.  Good all around tire.

Curious about those Cepek FC IIs...  iirc, their tread is similar to the old Armstrong Norseman, which had decent grip and fair tread life.  Also seems like the FC IIs had a more rounded tread (at the edges), so it didn't grip quite as well on sidehills -- more of a desert tire, good flotation in dry rocky/sandy stuff...  not really designed for mud or snow.  I dunno, I'm digging back into memories of many years ago.  Anyway, I'll be looking for the pics and to see what you think of them!

The truck is a Daily driver mud and snow are not a big problem in  Arizona, I'm am building it to
mess around on trails in the  desert.According to Desert Rat they said I should get around 45K or more
out of then witch sounds pretty good compared to 25K out of the MTR's. If I did not use it
for a DD I would run a MTR  again.

It's funny I was on my way work thinking about your post I think you are right about the fun country
they do remind me of the old Arm Strong Norseman tires. I have owned this truck since 84
and have always liked the Fun Country tires I guess it is time to try then out. :driving:

If you like the coopers look into the mastercraft mt's they are the same as the coopers same tread :yesnod: made by cooper by a sub company at a lower price.

You have some pics of the mastercrafts?  All the ones I've seen are different, though I do know cooper makes LOTS of different brands of tires.  Lots of les schwabb tires are made by cooper.

These don't look like the coopers to me.  Somewhat similar, but I'd say the goodrich mt is the closest, just looks like it has sharper edges.

First pic is the older stt tires, the ones I really like and want to continue running.  Second pic is new generation of coopers, much more expensive and not as nice IMO.

This is a first for me... but if you are looking for an MT that will give you good mileage.... Maybe try the toyo MT?
You have a Jeep?  That's cute.... So does Barbi.
