22RE questions
« on: May 11, 2007, 09:13:59 AM »
Hey all, I have some quick questions about our 22re's, it seems like mine is going crazy. First, where is the powerband in our rigs. Im getting a flat spot in the 2200-2900 rpm area. It falls flat on its face then when i get to 3k it goes, almost feels like turbo lag. Sounds like it wants to go but can't.

Also my temp guage says that my temp is fine but when i touch the radiator/head... it's very hot. like burn your freaking hand hot. just want to make sure this is normal, if i remember right my 22r never got that hot. maybe a thermostat?

And lastly, last week i went out and got new calipers/pads/rotors put on and the pads seem to be still rubbing on the rotors when i jack up the front and spin the tires. Could this be a Master cylinder prob, or should there be rubage? I had all of this replaced because i thought my rotors where tightening causing my flat spot in acceleration.

If you want any pics, just let me know. Im gonna check to see if i have any bubbles in the system then go from there. Thanks-Justin

The radiator is always going to be hot, you may have a stuborn thermostat but if it doesnt overheat i wouldnt worry about it.

Do you have vented rotors or non-vented, the thickness in the pad makes a difference between those 2. but if its just a light scrape that would seem to be pretty normal to me.

you can re-adjust your idle with the screw on top of the throttle body.

my power band (if there is one on a 22re) is 3000 and up, i dont have a lot of power from 2200-2900, but if its really slugish it may be an ignition timing problem.

you have a 4runner right, 4runners are kinda hevy for that motor and stock power band for the 22re is 3000 to almot 5000 if you turn your idle up a little it mite help don't go much higher than 1100 for your idle

cool, that makes me feel alot better. I'll check the timing, for some reason i think its off. Good news is that i checked the plugs and they all looked really good. Thanks guys for the info.
