Half doors-how did you do it??
« on: Jul 10, 2004, 07:09:43 AM »
Post away your pics and ideas for your half doors.  I have some I would like to cut  :flamer: and need some pointers.  I have seen one's with the window frame on and some with them off.  Pros and cons for either?  Thanks for your help guys!

My first ones..

The shape was made to stop wind yet allow you to easily lean out - they worked well..

Another pair..

And the ones I am building now - not meant to actually be doors but more of an insert like broncos use..

used 2x4 wood in the door for the flat top part.  pull the loop to open it.

I got started on mine a couple weeks ago, but realized I didn't have the sheet metal to finish them  :smack:

I cut off the frames because they were bent, doors from a rolled truck. Was planning on keeping them on but couldn't get them back into shape. They are lighter without though, personal preference I guess.  :twocents:

Heres mine. I just cut them how I wanted them. Took a sheet of steel and cut it too fit and welded them up....I have a question for a couple of you. How did you make your cupholders. I'm trying to find a cupholder insert or something of the sort to put in but no luck. thanks

I left the window frame on, I think it looks better, and it protects the rubber gasket around the door frame this way.

I plan to add speakers and cupholders when I put these back on for the summer

Didn't even think about that.  I was just going to get some exhaust pipe, and cut some circles out of my leftover sheet metal to cap the bottom

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

Check mine

The beer/soda holder was made with some heating duct metal, bent at the bottom and spot welded together.
A small lip was bent on the top so the holder just fell into place.  I sealed it up with some silicone.
