Anyone tune there marlin springs?
« on: Mar 15, 2007, 02:34:39 AM »
My trucks front end was sitting waaay too tall for my liking after sas. Two years later....still too tall. I pulled the very bottom leaf out of my marlin spring pack. Truck sat a bit lower (about 1 inch) and rode much smoother.  But I want even less lift still, Im guessing the next leaf will the the one to go??

I know these spring packs were designed to work there best as is, but im sure removing a few leaves wont hurt much as long as I have proper bump-stop spacing.

I suppose it will induce a lot more body roll, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has tried it.

Anyone? Anyone?

bump... I'm also unhappy with how tall my SAS sits in the front. I have Marlin 4" USA springs. They have 6 leaves. The top four have rivetted clamps, but the bottom two can come off easily.

It'll be fine, just take em out, run it, see if you like it, and adjust.

I took out the NEXT to shortest one. Made a big difference in ride and height.

Okay I took the second-to-the-bottom leaf out of my front Marlin USA 4" springs. They were six leaf, now they're five leaf. I measured before and after and it looks like I lost 1" in ride height. Hopefully as the springs break in I will drop some more. The ride has definitely improved. As long as this doesn't significantly impact the longevity of the spring, I would say I'm happier with it now. Time will tell.

I have not changed my front springs, which are 4" USA, but I have changed my rear 4" USA springs.

The front broke in nicely and dropped about an inch by my 5th run. I remember this because I had to recenter my steering wheel. The only thing I would change with my front is improve my shackle angle.

As for the rear, I designed my suspension around the fact that I never carry loads greater than about 100-150 pounds. The less weight I carry the more happy I am. I even remove my tail gate to conserve weight for short day runs.

So what I did to my rear leafs, is I removed two leafs from each side, so four leafs were removed total. I first removed the lowest leaf, and then I removed the lowest leaf again. Get it? :slap:

I lost over 2-inches of ride height, which fit perfectly the 2" pivot blocks.

My front flex is limited by my oil pan right now (drag link), which also prevents the tires from hitting my cab, which is nice. The rear works very well, as I can get the tires to go up into the fenders by almost two inches.
