Hey Glen how u get hold of Blackdog? The guy i got it from had all kinds of work done to the motor.I think he spent way to much money on this type of motor. He had forged piston 10 to 1 compression, port and polished heads, and oversize throttle body 3mm over by downey, also oversize injectors also downey and downey headers and downey cold air intake and manaflow exhaust and high flow cat and the list goes on.It has only 1,050 miles on the rebuilt. I have all the recipts the guys spent over $6,000 just for motor and the rest of the stuff i mentioned.

Sounds like a tranny problem to me, which I don't know much about.  I've got a 5 speed.

What exactly is it doing?  Bogging down, or does the truck just drag like it doesn't want to go anywhere?  Does it stay running or die?

When you put it in D, and let go of the brake, does it stay put, or does the tranny start moving it forward?

IF you can drive it, does it clear up at higher RPMs?

do you notice any black smoke, is the ignition system upgraded to keep up with the other upgraded parts? it sounds like it might be flooding itself out when you get on the gas.

you coud throw in a hotter coil to create more spark to help with the running rich. wires and plugs only transfer as much spark as the coil can throw at them.

plug cat???

Quick way to find out is start the truck cold, take off immediatly and see if it gradually loses power as it warms up.  They didn't accidentally leave a rag in the intake or anything did they?

rev it up, and check for a gas smell,  if its running rich, you should smell it.

Stand back and take a deep breath.
Are all the ground wires connected to clean surfaces?

Plugged fuel filter?
Tight valves?
It also sounds like the cam shaft(s) could be one tooth off?

You need to start with the basics and check them off one by one.
Check each plug connection to find out if a wire has slipped out of the plug so as not to be making a good connection.
Do you know of another 89 V6 that you could test your parts on like the air box ect.

I recall finding a bad connection at the water temp sender for the computer located at the back of the engine that was telling the computer that the engine was running super hot so it was shutting the system down with out setting a code.

you should have the O2 sensor plugged in
However, not having it plugged in would also affect the truck's running in idle as well as under power.

do you notice any black smoke, is the ignition system upgraded to keep up with the other upgraded parts? it sounds like it might be flooding itself out when you get on the gas.

Still think this is the problem.  Check the timing, and lean it out if necessary

Hey i have a similar problem with my 4Runner.  Durring idle it runs fine and reves great and when i try to go it will try to sputter and like you said, fall on its face.  I took it to the dealer and we found a the ground wire on the battery was not getting a good connection.  When he tested the volts on the bat. it was in the 17-19 range but when we cleaned and reconected it, the voltage was back down to 13.9 where it should be.  I found that because it was a stick i could while driving, turn the key to the off position, wait a sec, then turn it back to on(still in gear) and my acceleration problem was fixed tell i shut it off again.  Like someone else said earlier about the temp sensor, i do knowtice it bouncing around some times and that might be the probem now but haven't got the chance to check that yet.

also im not sure if its the ame with the 3.0 but theres a small screw like thing on top of the throtle body if its not there i wont run right cause it controls your air fuel mixture. on my old 91 p/u it was all the way out and it was runnin way to rich. look for this screw if its missing call a junk yard they will probubly give it to you. if its there try to unscrew it a little bit that should work. but most importantly calm down. wen you get upset and frustrated you dontthink streight and you mess up on things hell it could be somehting as simeple as a bad ground like
chris said ie had that happen before as well. check the conection wires on the starter cause if one is bad the truck wont run right. good luck in figureing this out man.

I had that same problem years ago and come to find out the air hose from the box to the throttle body, the one closest to the throttle body was dry rotted and cracked open inside the grooves, it opens up when you actually take off because the motor torques. Causing it to take in too much air
