tacoma V6 reg cab 4wd
« on: Feb 01, 2007, 07:43:03 AM »
I was wondering if toyota made a tacoma reg. cab 4 wheel drive with the manual tranny & 3.4 v 6. I cant seem to find one around. all I seem to find is with the 2.7 4 banger.
My plans are to build a wheeling rig out of a 97ish reg cab , using diamand axles, dual cases behind a manual tranny and a set of 38s for meet.
any info would be greatly appreciated.

Why do u wont a 3.4l, don't get me wrong its an awesome motor but the 3rz is one hell of a little motor and will have no problem moven 38's. Yes the 3.4 you get more power but you also get more weight. i would go with the 2.7  :twocents:       :welcome:

The 2.7 4cyl, 3.4 V6, and 4.7 V8 all use the same 8.4" rear end. That is unless the 2.7 or 3.4 is a TRD w/ the e-locker rearend, then its an 8" rear. As far as the motor goes, I'd go w/ a 3.4 if you're gonna go up to 38's, then again gearing is EVERYTHING when you're pushing that big of a tire. The 3.4 isn't THAT much heavier to offset the horsepower and torque gains. The 95.5-97's were the only years that Toyota put out a reg-cab 3.4 V6 Tacoma. They are EXTREMELY rare, and even more rare to see one for sale. Anyone that has one knows what they've got and don't wanna let go of it, unless they're asking an arm and a leg. Good luck on your search, b/c you'll be lookin for a while :D

Yup, your right about finding a reg cab, Its gonna be a needle in a haystack for sure.  As fare as the rearend goes, the non trd 3rd member differances from 4cyl to 6 cyl was the 2 pinon to the 4 pinion and bearing supports to beef em up, I could be wrong?(and probably am)

all of the non-trd rears are exact same as far as pinion count goes.... the only difference is the different gear ratios depending on engine/trans combo.

On the subject of putting the r151 behind the 2.7, how big of a task is it to do and what is need to be changed.
(do ya use the 4 banger clutch, can you go to the v6 clutch and bellhousing)?   Using the 2.7 seems to be the most feasable option at this point , but i whant the options that the r151 have to offer(or r150 in the stock tacoma v6), verses the 4 banger tranny.

You will need this=    http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=28874.0
as far as the clutch goes I am not sure you should ask Big Mike he can tell you, and I would stay with the  r151 because it is all ready has a gear driven t/c (23 spline), and you would need to buy an adaptor if you go with the r150 and wonted a gear driven t/c

I believe you would use a 2.7 clutch.... definitely go w/ the R151, its just a much better option in my opinion.

Cool, looks like the cutch diamiters are about the same from the 2.7 to the 3.4 anyways. I wish i could get my hands on a r151 but sounds like they are getting harder to come by. thats why I was figuring on a r150 and having the 1st gear changed out, but then ill be into a tranny quite a bit.
What is the going rate for a r151?

I got mine with 2 t/c for $1000.00, but that was because i now the guy personally. Most likely a lot more from what i have seen. I have seen them go for a lot less because the person dose not know what they are selling but i would say 800 to 1000 for the trany and then 100 to 200 for the t/c. its a lot of money but it will save you money in the long run.

Just remember G trannys stand for G i told you it would brake, W trannys stand for I told you it Would brake, and the R trannys sand for the Right one
