Has anybody broke a hub gear with a Detroit???

Can't figure out if my locker is broke or its my hub?
Seems to engage but starts popping an slipping any suggestions

Pull apart your hub, if it's not broken it's probably your locker. If anything's broken in your hub I'd bet it's the outer hub gear.

take your 10 mm socket and find out if your hub gear is bad.  But is sounds like it's time to jack it up and start tearing into it.   :thumbs:

I'm thinking the birf is striped a little or hoping the hub gear was in one piece an I couldn't see a crack in it

Could be birf, I'm assuming you have chromo though.

I've busted outer hub gear x3. Once Detroit busted as well as inner cromo gear/outer gear which stripped outer spline on Longfield. Dont know which broke first....So yeah it can happen.

When you broke ur Detroit would it still lock or was it just shot

Would ratchet and not stay engaged. It wasn't shot as the internal parts can be replaced. Think it was $110 by the time I was done.

Prior to that I had heard that if it broke its a paperweight. This is not correct! In fact I have the gear hanging on my wall of carnage. Amazingly puny piece!

Nope the outer splines of birf rounded off. As I had Bobby's cromo gear it was warranteed!

I think it's the locker hub gears are good an splines look good
