How do you clean the spring eyes?
« on: Jan 08, 2007, 02:40:49 PM »
I took my springs apart and am now putting them back together with new bushings.  I had to burn the old bushings out and now the new ones won't go in.  But its not the rubber that is really the problem, there is a lot of rust in the eye of the spring. If anyone has some tips on clean out the eyes let me know.

i dont know... maybe a brush of some sort, sand paper, a round file. i never have worried about it much myself, i just always put alittle grease on the bushing and slide it in.
stupid people shouldn't have kids.

Use whatever you want. A rotary brush like above or pick the rust out with a screwdriver then slide the bushings in with some grease. It isn't really complicated or real critical to vehicle performance.
If you still have control you aren't going fast enough

Not my first choice, those things are dangerous. It's like having a bunch of stick pins thrown at you. Make sure you ware safety glasses if you must.

Hammer and a small chisel should clean the rust off so the bushing will fit.

What about trying to find a large pipe cleaner?

Well I did it and it was only the one that I tried that was really tough to clean out.  All of the others I just took a chisel to.
Thanks

Some WD40 spray & 120 grit sand paper would clean them up.
