I wouldn't be against it being somewhere south (closer to marlin) like on dusy or something. I am not real familiar with the area so where I dunno..

no idea on the date though..

I would think Dusy would take too long. Thompson grade takes a while to get up. Of course people wouldn't be as nervous of being so far out and breaking down with all the other Toys around.

The granite bowl is kinda hard to beat for a meeting spot.
I am biased now that i live closer to Rubicon, Dusy would have been great last year.

what would be the chances of having it in johnson valley?
great trails and good location for all of us in so cal
living in the desert makes toyotas
a musthave thing . so much desert to crawl in and so few gas stations.
barstow is great, calico and the hammers are both within a half an hour  drive.

I know the FS would not like a big group on Dusy so a permit might be tough. Maybe staging at Courtright lake and running in from there with small groups?? Or swamp

I'm against Dusy or Swamp. Both are tight and long trails. I can run swamp ( nice pace ) in 5 hours and Dusy in 16 hours. Thats with 1- 3 trucks. Add 67 more and I'd rather be in LA.  I'm not try to be an ass but I see the damage large groups ( full width axles ) have done to these and other trails( we're luck to still Dusy and I don't want to see it go ). Further more the FS will watch us like a hawk and will will need a permit. The Poker run over Swamp is always occupaned by FS in there jeep. I knew one of the rangers ( Russ- no longer works there but they don't mess around). I'm in favor of JV. Down there we have a whole lake bed and atleast 9 trails. The more trails the better, more options is good. I like the Rubicon to. I'm equal drive time between the two. But lets not forget our non California friends. Moab :idea:I went only to MCR1 but I beleave I'm correct in saying they were all similar. We need to make this a run instead of a gathering. At MCR1 I meet a ton of cool people just wish I was wheeling with them. This is just my biased :twocents:.
No offence to LA residents- you have a nice city with lots of cars :screwy:

Im still partial to rubicon mostly because of the weather and scenery(wheeling is fun too)...JV is going to be hot and also all the trucks that might not be built as well as ours could end up having trouble enjoyng themselves as much as Rubicon.....oh did i mention HOT? :flamer: :moon:

I can agree, why change it after 3 years in a row. But I watch you drive through Big Sluice just as I'm starting in( if you know what I mean- RUN). If it was to be JV then it would have to be fall or spring. With all the trail choices "lesser" trucks can have fun to. A rear locker, 470 or dual case, 33'' tires, and a spotter it can be done.

Ok guys, here is the latest from the Marlin Crawler headquarters:

After 3 years we are going to stop the Round Up. Instead, we will plan to do approx. 4 Runs every year. These will be employee get away trips that will include Marlin himself. These runs will be announced ahead of time on our Webpage and anyone who would like to come and join Marlin and the crew is more than welcomed. They will be actual trail rides, not a meeting. We feel that the #1 priority is to get Marlin out of the shop and back on the trails helping people where he so loves to be. So these events will be official for the Marlin Crawler workers and anyone who would like to join us is freely invited.

At this moment nothing is being planned. I would imagine that we will do one trip for every season. Trails may include Rubicon, The Hammers, Swamp Lake, Dusy-Ershim, Fordyce Creek, and the like. Maybe we will do some eaiser runs like Los Coyotes and some runs close to Fresno on HWY168 like Bald Mountain, Coyote, Strawberry, and Red Lake. Of course we will travel other trails but these would probably be the first ones on our list. Trail suggestions will also be considered but we are not at that step yet.

So to all who participated in the MCR, thankyou for the memories and hopefully you will join us on the trail in 2004!

I will post up more information as I receive it. Cya!

This sounds like and excelent idea for Marlin.  You don't want him to look at wheelin as a favorite pastime thats for sure

Excellent Mike, now how do you plan to rip him away from the shop - can we all meet at the shop and kidnap him? :)

Seriously, that sounds fun!

Plese due a run at the con this year.  Mcr was a good excuse for me to make the trip up north.  I think this is a great idea.  Where will these runs be posted?

I agree we should to do at least one run on the con. We have plans to drug/capture Marlin as needed to get him out of the shop!

Does anyone know of a calandar of events on the con that can be consulted before a date is choosen. We should try to choose a weekend that does not have a Jeep Jamboree or other major event.

Ok Guys,

We are doing our First "Get Marlin Out Of The Shop" run! He will be at the Hammers on Dec 31st through the weekend. This isn't our get to gether but an actual annual event thats held there every new years.

Im sure many know about this since we have announced that the new Rear Disconnect will be on hand, but I just wanted to post it here.

I need to figure out now what to do about this section of the board since the MCR-events are officially dead... We do have a Trip Reports section, but it would be good to have a seperate section just to announce when and where Marlin's next trail trip will take place.

Anyways, we hope to see many of you there!

It'd be good to see all the guy's head to Arid-zona in the March-April or Oct- Nov time frame. We've got trails equal or better than most- just not as long as the Rubicon.

How about moving this thread over to the "Trail Reports, Events, and Gatherings" section.

As to AZ I agree, I would really like to get back to the AZ trails, I had a blast there last time. I don't want to bake, or freeze so spring time may be best!
