2nd gen runner help
« on: Nov 13, 2006, 07:55:50 AM »
I am helping a buddy do up his 2nd gen runner. He got the whole kit from Marlin or Trail Gear I dont know wich, but what I need to know is where to put the front spring hanger to center the wheel up in the well. In the direction's it tells where to put it on 1st gen's but nothing on second gen's. Any help would be appreciated. oh yea and if it matter's they are the 5" spring's.

Yes I know it mounts in the same spot but when you don't have a factory spring perch to measure off of it is kind of tough to measure 5" forward or what ever it is.

why dont you bolt everything together, roll the tire under the fenderwell where you want it and then take measurements or tac it into place?

That's how we are going to do it, I was just hoping for a measurment to use as a starting point.

Hey thanks for tryin Kev.

Well tonight we did mock in the springs, hangers, and axle (filled) and measured, measured and measured again and tach'ed them in place. Wound up at about 35deg's shackle angle. I want to be at 25 to 30deg's.  So tomorrow will grind 'em back off and try about 1/2" back further to try and get desired angle.  Will be using an angle finder ( that Kevin happens to have of mine :tantrum:)

Now with all the weight on the springs the stock 31" tire is center of the wheel well.  Invisioning any thing more than a 35 to fit in there without trimming is going to be hard.

Needless to say, I think getting the whole rear suspension figured out is going to be the hardest part of this whole lift. The front seems like it is alot more straight forward
