best way to mate a 21 & 23 splines cases?
« on: Aug 15, 2006, 11:06:34 AM »
just picked up an 85 4Runner with EFI , 5spd & 4.10 gears...wheeled it once & was geared waaaay to high - expecially while going down hill! scary! I'd like to keep the stock r&p for now as it's only got 33s so far...

I've searched some & think I have a unique-enough question....I would like to go with a dual tcase setup & have access to a 87 turbo tcase  - would it be best to just use my stock tcase as the crawler box & the 23 spline as the back case or am I bass-ackwards?? I know I'd need the top shifter conv. for the 23 & most people seem to keep the  fwd shift in the crawler box (check!) & top shift in the back (convert the 23-check!)....and can't forget the new cross memeber...

Also thinking about keeping the stock gears for now...I like to try things stock first so I see the advantages to upgrades first hand.

Thanks for any input / opinions....... :beerchug:

sounds like you did your research,  yes  the 21 spline you have would be your crawler, then use the complete  23 spline in the rear

its gonna be sweet  :woohoo:

Always put the 23 in the rear, so it gets stronger as it gets longer.
