Leafs and swaybars
« on: Aug 10, 2006, 04:25:36 PM »
My 91 runner is now leaf sprung on all 4 corners, Bilstein 5100 series on all 4 corners as well.  This is my daily driver, 35" MTR's.  Toe was set by a shop and they measure my caster as well, about 4.5 degrees positive.  But, it's still a bit unnerving to drive on the street.  I'm thinking that with sway bars it would drastically reduce the occasional undulations and feel more stable.

So, any suggestions?  Any pics of sway bar installations you've done?  I saved my stock ones, gonna see if I can build axle mounts, but wondering what else has been done....

IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

It's not a question of going easy in the turns.  Most of use with an SAS, big lifts and soft springs would be in deep doodie if we had to make an emergency manuever on the freeway.  Try getting your rig up to 40 in a big parking lot and yank the wheel.  I'd rather have to spend 15 minutes at the trailhead disconnecting a sway bar for other 99% of the time my rig is on public roads.

Turd schmurd, it makes her corner like a race car...er, well not really, but it makes an ENORMOUS difference.

Mine is made from an IFS torsion bar...I can't say how it will perform off road, I may disconnect it, I am not sure, but it is VERY easy to disconnect.  It also needs to be cleaned up and painted, it don't look too pretty right now.
