waterpump?
« on: Jul 16, 2006, 08:56:13 PM »
alright well my Chilton's manual has 6 steps for removing the water pump.  I did the first 5 and now i'm confused.  i'm supposed to be able to unbolt it now but i think more stuff needs to come off, theres more but i dont wanna showcase my incompetence.  could somebody give me a good step by step from start to finish?  i'm a total newb under the hood.  truck is a 85 runner 22re.

thanks

Quote from: courtsy of Haynes Automotive Repair Manual
1  Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2  Drain the cooling system
3  Remove the cooling fan and lift the shroud out of the engine compartment
4  Remove the drivebelt
5  Disconnect the cooling hoses from the water pump
6  Remove any accessory brackets from the water pump
7  Remove the water pump pulley
8  Unbolt and remove the water pump, noting the length and types of bolts as they are removed to ensure correct installation
9  Thoroughly clean all gasket surfaces
10 Position a new gasket onto the engine
11 Install the pump and tighten the bolts to the proper torque specifications
12 reinstall all parts removed in the reverse order of removal
13 Refill the cooling system and check belt tension

Here's step by step intructions from Haynes, a few more than yours. I usually take out the radiator too, those cooling fins cut your knuckles like a razor blade.
