Rear drop hangar VS. double shackels
« on: Mar 29, 2006, 09:05:25 AM »
I know that allot of people run these double shackles in the rear and they work great. I understand that with a good design it will not unload on you much either.

So my question is. Who has run or seen people running a drop hangar for the rear shackles. From what I understand about these is that if they are set up correctly you don't get much if any unloading because all of your positive travel is in the leaf. The negative travel is a combination of having your rear shackel setting at a 45* (giving approx 90* of neg. travel) and your leafs.

I am seriously considering going to this set up on my 4runner and just wanted to get some thoughts. Even pics would be great. Thanks in advance

Here is a picture (a poor one) of what I am talking about for the drop hangar.

Well, since nobody seems to follow where I'm going on this topic, let me re-phrase it a bit.

I need to gain about 4 inches of ride height in the rear. I refuse to do it by putting blocks on the perches. Now my only options are; #1 to make the shackles longer and run a double or revolver setup(which I have reservations about doing) or #2 to take a 4inch block and put it in between the shackle mount and frame(which I have never seen or heard good or bad about).

I am leaning toward #2 since it should provide a semi-stock feel, however with proper shackle angles and drop mount design I think it could be extremly flexy.

Any thoughts?

you would point your pinion up a ton  if you put a drop block  inbetween the shackle and the frame.   why  the hate against blocks?

what do you mean you've never seen it?  my truck has a 3" drop box

I say do the drop box like we talked about at Rudy's, it'll give you the ride height you need to level it out without affecting articulation. That or just do a revolver.. you know it'll unload though like the teraflex's we ran on Rudys runner for awhile.

It's not hate, just dont want them. As for pinoin angle, I don't mind adjusting the perches but the way it sets now I may not have to.

Shane, I can't remember what yours looked like bro.  :headscratch:
