Is the 4.7 worth the extra $?
« on: Apr 03, 2006, 12:30:17 AM »
I have been trying to save up for a dual case for my 2000 4Runner.  I could order the dual case w/o the 4.7 gear tomorrow (I have the $).  It will be a month or so before I can get the additional $ for the 4.7.  For those who run the low gears, is the 4.7 gear worth the extra $500+?

Depends on what you want to do with them.

2.28 x 2.28 = 5.20

2.28 x 4.7 = 10.72

With both 2.28's you only have two combinations of low ranges and a little lower than one 4.7.

With one 2.28 and one 4.7 you have three ratios to chose from (2.28 / 4.7 / 10.72)

Over all you will love the 2.8 / 4.7 combo.

The choice is yours.

If it's only going to take a month to get the extra doe.....wait. You'll be glad you did. While dual cases are definetly great, WM is right, there is no substitution for the versatility of the "ultimate".
But if you can't afford it, dual 2.28's is still leaps and bounds better than just one.

Go with the 2.28+4.7.    I've done both and would never do 2.28 x 2 again.  The gear options seem endless.
