IROKS?
« on: Nov 07, 2005, 09:24:41 PM »
I'm almost done with my SAS and will be needing larger tires soon. I want to run a 36" tire, but there arent many chooses for a decent price.

Just wanted to know what experiences people have had running the Iroks, both radial and bias ply. Positives? Negatives? How long they lasted, noise, etc? Let me know what you think.

Yes noisy, road manners are okay.. they're a "bouncy" tire.. if you plan on running them on the rocks drop the pressure really low... hammer down = wheel hop like a mofo.

They're a pretty good tire though.

There are MANY, MANY, MANY, MANY, MANY bad reviews on multiple boards about the halfassted/weakness of the radial IROKS.

I would definately go with bias if you do em.

85 Runner, 5" All-Pro Extreme Lift, Complete Marlin T-Case with new TS 4.7 gears, Super Birfields(Longfields), 5:29's, Detroited front, Spooled rear, 36" TSL's, Bikini top.

Yes, Livin in Kansas sucks azz!!

My friend has them on a full size blazer and they seek to do alright.  They are a prettty cheap tire, he has 36: bias ply.  It is like 12.5 or 13.5  but they are actualy wider than a 14.5 bogger.

He has had them for about one year and it is his daily driver, cant tell much wear but he really dosent wheel.

If you get them I agree with FatAssRunner, go with a bias ply.

have any of you guys actually wheeled with the radial iroks? All this bad talking but no real info to back it up. Well, my friend has the 36" radial iroks on his daily driven 4runner. He loves them. I have seen him wheel, and they are pretty unstoppable. Decent tire on the road too. No all terrain but not an SX either. Anyway, I wouldn't talk smack about these tires, they are actually pretty good.

While on the Dixie run a friend of mine got a knot on one of his 37 radial iroks.  We think that it got pinched between the lock ring and a rock.  Put on the spare and it had a knot before the end of the weekend.  He has since aquired bias 39's

I have the 36 x 13.5 x 15 IROK bias ply's and I love them.. they drive pretty good on the street, they are really good on the trails, aired down or not.... plus for around $170 per tire..  thats a good deal! I have no regrets buying them yet.

Yup Ive wheeled with guys running radial iroks.  Every trip out another one loses a sidewall.  While the guys running bias iroks are still running with air in them.  The radials have a pregnant dog sidewall and thats a fact. ;)
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Ahhh you still have the language censor torned on so b itch comes across as pregnant dog. :hahaha:

The bias Irok is a pretty tough tire but the radials are garbage.  Every trip I go on with a buddy that is running 41" radial Iroks he loses a sidewall.  He also runs 49's depending ont he trail and the 49's are bulletproof so far.  I also have a buddy on 36" radials, the first trip out he lost a sidewall.  Got it replaced then two trips later he's on bias and hasn't lost a sidewall yet.  Its all in the construction.  ;)

Yea we are all really tough on tires around here.  Im on sx's and Ill never go to any other tire, second trip out I managed to put a 4x3/8" cut in a sidewall.  Its not even to the chords yet.
