My truck is a 94 22re. I am experiencing an engine missfire when i turn up a steep incline only. It is fouling the #3 plug temporarily, once back level it will clear out and run great. I have installed new plugs, distributor cap, wires, rebuilt injectors, and removed the cold start valve temporarily to insure it was not the problem. It will pull and accelerate on the remaining three cylinders, so I don't think it is a lack of fuel pressure. Occasionally it will puff a blue smoke haze while missing. I am wondering if oil is getting through the PVC valve and pooling in the #3 intake tube, then dumping into #3 Cyl when it turns uphill. I plan to replace the PVC valve and maybe pull the valve cover to insure oil is draining back to the pan properly. Has anyone experienced this type problem before? Any suggestions?

well blue smoke is oil..    How many miles U got?      Do a compretion check   and a lead down test.  SOunds  like a ring   or valve seal  is leting buy oil  onder a heavy load :dunno:

The truck only has 107,000 miles on it. If this were a DD I would never have a problem, it only happens when I turn it up 45 degrees or more, and clears out when level.. Compression is good.

This is a rock krawler. The engine is normally at idle or just above, very little throttle, and it happens almost immediately as the vehicle turns up at a good angle.

Well, the pcv hose does connect to the plenum at the number 3 cylinder, so you might be on the right track.  I can't remember now, but the lat model valve covers don't have the removable baffles right?  I know the early ones had removable baffles with some crummy gaskets.

On my 22r I had a mechanic put some type of mesh material, can't remember what it was, into the pcv line to reduce the amount of oil passing throught it.

Try plugging the pcv line on the manifold and throttle body and venting the pcv system to see if it happens.

That is a good idea. I could put a small canister in line to collect the oil, if any, and let the fumes go on to the manifold.

The pcv system is not feeding oil into the intake. I was able to do a little more trouble shooting. Number three is firing, even though the plug is fouling, and the voltage to #3 is much lower than the other three. I guess I'll look at the distributer and coil next. Surely some one has seen this problem before.
