Wiring nightmare
« on: Jan 20, 2013, 05:42:47 PM »
I need some help with the wiring in my 87 Toyota PU. Half of my cluster isn't working, my A/C doesnt work, my stereo doesn't work and when it does the AMp goes in and out of protection and I'm having problems with my passenger side window. Is there a wiring kit out there? Can anyone send some help my way? Thank you.

There are many things that can cause this of course but start with your grounds and make sure that they are all sound and tight. The main ground for the cab runs from the back of the engine to the firewall. This should be a bare flat or heavy black wire directly behind the engine. Then on the inside you should also find one running from the firewall to the steel portion of the dash on the bottom tube. Also make sure that the ground from the side of the engine to the fenders and battery are also sound and tight. Ground connections are usually the most suspect even though there are fewer grounds over positive connections but since you are having multiple issues I suspect a ground or a pinched/mis-wired positive wire and on that start looking at stereo connections, if I have had an issue I can usually track it to a ground or bad radio/stereo wiring.
