How do you know the difference?
« on: Jun 27, 2005, 06:57:24 AM »
Mods,
How do you know which posts should stay in Off Topic and which ones should go to Chit Chat Camp??

Just curious  :beerchug:

I'll give you a hint...this should be in Chit Chat!

Or we could just do like on pirate where none of the off topic posts count at all.  I think from here on out none of the posts for off topic should count.

I think that is a good idea as well.  Or we could just get rid of the post counts :dunno:  If they matter that much to people, mabye they're on the wrong forum??  Let the mods have their title, but make everyone esle equal?

I think post cout is good, but if it matters that much to have 2 chit chat/off topic forums, then just combine the 2  and make them not count from here on out.

The Moderators should be the ones who have the "emblems".  Every one else should just have their avatars.  The turtle points are fun, but if its going to start a problem then they need to go also.  :twocents:

The only reason that I can see for post counting at all is to sorta allow the noobs to know who to ask or who they have a better chance of getting the correct information from.  It annoys me when Im on a new forum and someone asks a simple question that Im correct in answering and they doubt me becasue of my small post count its silly but thats the way it its. ;)

I figured it was something like that, but if nobody had post counts, that would kinda help eliminate the doubt, wouldnt it? Even if the post counts were gone, people could see how much you and others post, and other people on the board would refer them to the "gurus"

I agree also. I think that would be better than having off topic and chit chat camp, just combine them as before just no post count.

We actually dont know for sure, and we are talking about modifying some things. Chit Chat Camp was just made in a hurry because one thread got out of hand with 225 pages of post monkies, yes having a good time and we are glad that those people are here, but more and more people are becoming concerned with newbies who have only been here for about a month and are already a rock god or legend, yet they have really not done much other than chit chat...

We'll take care of it, im super busy this week, so the chit chat camp will probably be around until next week, then Ill change it a bit...

Wheh dodged a bullet there...  Ive got over 4500!  :gap:

But yes I hate to admit it but I agree with mr4x4, a member #would be better than having an actual post count shown.  Maybe if the post count was only visible in your profile?

This is getting way too screwy, who cares how many posts you have or when you joined or what your member # is. Isn't what matters is what kind of contribution big or little you can provide? I'm not a tech, grease monkey, or a mechanic, but I have and like others here have had lots of time under my truck in my garage and on the trail. My input comes from my experiences with building upgrading and modifying my Toyota 4x4. Isn't that for the most part why we are here?  To give our fellow Toyota enthusists tips and "here's what I did" information? Then also others here are mechanics and techs and can give us some informitive advice on reparing our vehicles. Yes Word Association got crazy posts, but who cares. This same thing happened on PBB and all they did was end post count for any chit chat. Again though who cares weather or not it counted, who cares how many posts you've done, who cares how long you've been a member. What matters is that you spend time here interacting on the board and are at the ready to throw out some good advice when you can. Members are putting way too much into this issue and who's bigger than who by how many or how long you've been here. Here's what I suggest to the mods, if there is a way to have a date joined in the side box put it in there, though that doesn't even remotley say how much critical input on tech you can supply. Hell you could be a Toyota trained tech for 20 years and have just joined  the board and you'd blow someone that's been here since the start of the board. Also your ranking should not only be your post count but also the joined date and how much you post in the tech sections. I know these options may not be possible to do since it would have to be in the programming but  that's my 2cents on the issue. I've had a lot of fun with you guys, have never been attacked, and when we had the one recent troll try to stir us up we banded together and shut him down quick. Now this bs has the potential to unravel every thread here. I'm just sick of hearing about what about my posts, what happened to them. Sheeesh, until now I almost didn't know who was a mod, everyone was just cruising along having fun and giving good information on fixing trucks and such.  Lets get back to that, ok.

:beerchug: agreed on that. i havent been on this board a long time but i havent had any problems. i've gotten a little h*ll for drivin a nissan and not a toyota, but most of the time if anybody is insulted on this board then the're joking around. heck read the thread about the people from east texas, oklahoma, arkansas. me, glen, and swampy are always givin each other hell but we all know that we're just playin. as far as advice goes on tech stuff everybody has their own way of helping. some tell you what not to do, others give little bits of help as for what to do.

I agree with Rocksurfer.

Having "off topic" and "chit chat" seems a bit redundent to me. Just my $0.02.
