1/4 ellip questions
« on: Sep 11, 2002, 02:45:39 AM »
Easy one actually...linkages, rates, and axle side stuff I'm not worried about, that's all calculations and such.

However, I've seen fixed boxes for mounting the springs as well as bolted/clamped options, some under the frame rail, some beside.  My thought is a bolted mount, outside the frame rails, but I'm unsure as to how folks are setting these ups...anyone have any detailed pics of their fab work or a link I can jump to?  It seems to me you end up with the springs quite a ways out from the frame in the bolted/clamped installs...making room for the inside two bolts...

(helping a buddy out with CORR truck ideas....)

Example pic here...just looking for better closeups or descriptions...

That's Ron Maximoff. His first setup had a A frame type bar above the center of the Axle. There was only one place it mounted to the axle and he broke it a few times. Now I think he has 2 upper bars, still at the A frame type angle. I havn't heard of him having problems with it since.

Also the pad just behind the spring mount is there for ride hieght adjusment.  The springs sit on it at rest. That's about all I can think of for now. I never built one, but I ran with him a few times on the trals fter he did it.

Ron and I met/talked at the ProRocks in Attica this year....just wish he'd had the Cruiser there to take a look at things.  (watch that moonshine tho....yikes!)

Any more pics??  Keep 'em coming - I need a Spring project!

Mike Knorr and I are wheeling together Sept 28th...will get some good views of his junk then.

IMO, roadability may not be all that great.  My SOA is plenty streetable, but accident avoidance maneuvers would be strange....it's quite soft.  Ride is great, highway speeds are nice too.  Adding in the 1/4 ellip rear may undo some of the streetability tho....have to see next spring!

When I move to a state with some real wheeling I will...until then I'm stuck in Wisconsin....6 hours is the closest worthwhile wheeling (Attica IN Badlands) and since I only get there a few times a year, my junk can't sit in the garage forever!

Actually...got a 84 minitruck in the garage for a rockracer.  Soon as the missus gives me permission....4.3 V6, 700R4, D300 case....ERoCC Legends class here we come!
