Sierra National Forest continued closures
« on: Nov 10, 2020, 02:09:08 PM »
Consider sending a message on the Sierra National Forest website to address the continued closure (till 11-24-20) of the Sierra National Forest including areas that are not impacted by the fire. Even after the decent amount of rain and snow that just occurred. These incremental closures, restrictions and time of use restrictions on our public lands will soon lead to very little if any access to these lands as history has proven. There's always some type of reasoning for these closures or restrictions whether it be a fire, pandemic, a frog or an owl the excuses never end and can get quite creative.

Found a new gate yesterday in front of a good looking older gate at The Hite Cove Trail down to the South Fork Merced River. To spend that much taxpayer money on a new gate instead of repairing the minor damage to the trail makes one think that they will probably never open that trail up again.
Something has to change or within the next 10 to 20 years most of the off road and dirt trails in the National Forest on the west coast will likely be closed or massively restricted

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the 4-wheeling communities need to keep our mouths shut and do not publish anything about trails, club events, or geographical locations.

In California 8 years of sandrailing and in Arizona - over my 18 years of active 4-wheeling, belonging to 1/2 dozen 4-wheel clubs, I saw what I believe was helping to destroy the freedom of 4-wheeling on public lands.  While in the Mesa 4-Wheelers here in AZ, we opened a number of trails.  Once the word got out and the location was made public with the GPS coordinates, more often than not, the BLM came in and closed the trail or access to the trail.

As a club we attempted to "work" with several Federal agencies like the BLM.  The concept was a valid one - do clean ups and repair trails and show them that we were really good to the land, but as soon as they found out about a newly opened trail, the consequences were quickly announced by the authorities - trail closures for no real reason.

I remember in 1986 visiting Anza Borrego Desert State Park. One of the most beautiful and interesting areas I’ve ever been on.  Shortly after that time, an article was published in one of the popular off-road magazines about the park and the 4 wheeling trails.  Within one year of that article, much of park was sadly destroyed and ravaged by ignorant morons.

I don't have any proof, but it's obvious there are wacko environmentalists that look for anything to validate their agenda - STOP PUBLIC LAND USE - and where do they find what they are looking for??.... the off-road environmental terrorists!!  4-wheel drive vehicles that just tear the shait out of the terrain. Hell... they don't have to infiltrate a club, all the clubs broadcast and publish all their activities!!  I saw it during my sand duning days as a member of C.O.R.V.A.  The environmental morons worked to shut down the Glamis sand dunes.  Ironically, the only people that EVER visited the dunes were sand duners!!!

You want to "save our trails", then ALL of those who truly want keep our trails open to access... KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND KEEP ALL ACTIVITIES AND TRAILS A BIG SECRET... OR KEEP AS LOW A PUBLIC PROFILE AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN ABOUT ANY TRAILS.  4-wheel drive clubs should go dark.  4-wheel suppliers should be careful to publish only well-known historical events - like The Rubicon.

It's pathetic that 4-wheel drive vehicle manufacturers create stupid TV ads showing what??... their new fancy off-road vehicle recklessly driving with tires spinning, skidding around, tearing the crap out of the whatever terrain they are being filmed on!!

That's just my worthless opinion.

While I respect your opinion Gnarls here in California we are past the staying quiet period and basically things are just getting Beyond bad.
I don't want to publicize any trails but I believe the public that enjoys camping, four-wheel drive, responsible campfires, snowmobiling, boating, Hunting, Fishing and just basically access to public lands needs to speak up or we will lose almost everything in the next 20 to 30 years if things continue going at the pace that they are now.
Now the forest service has a new excuse, the Creek Fire, and they're using that excuse to limit Recreation and access to many of the non burned areas, right now and campfires are even prohibited even though there's snow on the ground above 6000.
Campgrounds that we used to enjoy after the peak season summer crowds were gone for Generations,  now have locked Gates to keep the public out

The only two methods that might work is to quit electing liberal Democrats and start aggressively  providing public comments to your National Forest Service and encouraging your friends and acquaintances to also do that.
I have a hard time just giving up hope.....

Well... I couldn't live in CA, OR, WA.  And yes, voting for socialists is like committing suicide ... you ain't going out camping or 4-wheeling.

The democrat socialist party wants to control everything while completely destroying America.

I don't think you can protest enough in CA to make any difference.  The democrats in office don't give a ratsa$$ about their citizen's opinions.

If you want to enjoy camping, four-wheeling, responsible campfires, boating, hunting, fishing and just basically access to public lands, move to Arizona.  Although things are changing here as well!

But, I'm not giving up on Trump and either are over 70 million deplorables!
