Topic: Picked up a Toyota, need a forum to pester

Hey just picked up an 83 Sunrader from Northern California and starting the work of converting it to 4 wheel drive with a 14 bolt rear swap.
It will be my first older toyota I've owned and ever worked on so this will be interesting.

Getting my 12 posts in then headin to the classifieds.

In the meantime does anyone know where I can track down complete IFS steering? Its currently a manual gear box.

Do you need 4wd for your planned use, or just want it for added traction where you plan to go?

I've gone a few places where tractions been a nice-to-have, primarily snow + slope. I'd like to use this year round and all seasons.
I also have alot of the spare parts from a previous samurai build with toyo axles so I thought I could transfer them into this.

I was thinking if you were just after extra traction for soft soil, an ARB would be an easier route, than a conversion, and for lower gearing just install a t-case, but if you are traveling on snowy roads with it, 4wd is the a better choice, if it doesn't become too top heavy with an SAS.

Agree that a locker could be an easy upgrade with a lot of the function.

However isn't the dually rear axle different than the minitruck and land cruiser axles? I assume this could make it incompatible with an ARB

Since they were built on the truck chassis, I would think that either the RD90 or RD132 should work.
