Theres a couple videos on youtube and details on other forums about the OM617 swaps into a first gen pickup. Currently I'm undecided between the 617 or the Cummins ISF 2.8 diesel swap.

Downside to the OM617 is the length. If the engine is pushed back to about 1" from the firewall then the stock toyota or mercedez radiator can be used with a pusher fan without hacking up the grill. Doesn't seem to be a way to fit the stock mechanical fan. Havent read about any overheating issues with that setup. 617 is a extremely reliable motor and responds well to performance upgrades. It needs the engine oil cooler. If I install this motor the oil cooler will be remote mounted under the truck with it's own fan.

The transmission adapter will run about $650 with a new flywheel http://doomsdaydiesel.net/PRODUCTS.html His prices are better than others that I've found.

Diesel is always a cooler swap in my book. I have a 3rz swap. It's ok, but not near what you could get from a diesel. It really depends on what your trying to do with the truck thst determines which engine is a better swap.

I daily drive it, and go in the woods on the weekend and play around. Still haven't decided which motor to go with??
