I just stuck a 99 4Runner 3.4 into my 88 pickup. There's no way the 99 A/C stuff would have worked in the dash and the condenser was too big. I used all my original A/C system except for the compressor and A/C Amplifier.

I cut the ends off my original hoses at the compressor end and cut the hoses off the hard lines on the 3.4 compressor leaving the barbs exposed. Just use a cut off wheel and cut the aluminum crimp sleeves off. The original hoses slid right on the barbs of the hard lines on the 3.4 compressor. Only problem was I had no charge ports. So I marked the hose orientation and took them to an A/C shop that made hoses. I told them where to put some charge ports and they made me two hoses with charge ports that attached my original 88 A/C system to the 3.4 compressor. Cost me $45 per hose.

I wired in the 3.4 A/C amplifier in place of the stock one because it worked with the new ECM to idle up the engine when the A/C was turned on. The 22RE one will not work correctly because it is set up for the idle up valve and other crap you will no longer have.

I would think you can probably do the same thing with your swap.

I had already recently converted my 88 to R134A so I had a fresh expansion valve and dryer. I did drain the factory PAG oil from the 3.4 compressor and used Ester 100 A/C oil because of my R12 conversion.

It runs ice cold. I have pics if they would help explain what I'm talking about. Might help even though mine was a 3.4 swap. I'll see if I can get them to post.

Here's where I had cut the ends off the stock hoses and slid them in place on the 3.4 compressor hard lines. No charge ports anymore since they were on the old compressor.

Here are the hoses I had made with charge ports in them. Connected the old system to the new compressor.

Here they are installed. Your 87 system should be the same as my 88. I don't know how the 3RZ is set up though. Hope this helps.

Low side charge port.

High side port.

is your 22r out of refrigerant?  I swapped the 3rz into a 92 pickup that had good a/c and was able to not even break the a/c lines apart and bolted the 92's a/c compressor right into the 3rz bracket, all I have to do now is get a compressor clutch from an mr2(its in the 3rz swap thread) and I will have stock a/c system

No my A/C on the RE worked great nice and cold. Im going to search some pnp for that mr2 clutch for the A/C compressor. X2 on the hoses, i had to cut the fittings from the gas tank when i changed my fuel sending unit, they were welded on there.

I have a 90 4runner, used a 97 3rz 4runner donor, condenser was huge so I used the 90 condenser. made a discharge hose from one end of each original to it allow it to connect to the condenser. I used all the 97 hvac under the dash and used the 97 drier and lines to connect to the other side of the condenser. Used a tubing bender for the aluminum line of the drier. Had to sand and shim the one hose at condenser from the 97 line to the 90 condenser. Blows cold with no issues. Also have the factory v6 electric fan for the a/c but have not connected it yet and still works fine....

Do these pictures still exist? Trying to hook my 1982 Dash A/C unit to a 1996 3RZ A/C compressor.

Sorry for the late reply. I have been away from the forum for a while. Unfortunately all my pics got deleted.

Basically, the hose fittings have tapered ribbed stems like most hoses do. Cut off the crimp collar and pull of the hose. Should be able to just run new hose between old and new system and get them crimped. Another option is Aeroquip reusable hose ends. Summit Racing and others sell them.

Has anyone passed the Carb smog referees inspection? My 88 runner is ready for inspection but I’m having a couple issues with the OBD2 not reading my evap canister.

if what you are saying is that your evap monitor has not set, that monitor is the only one that is not required  to be set to pass CA smog. it can take a long time for the conditions to be right for the system to perform the evap test. if your check engine light is on with an evap code, that is another story and you will not pass. if you have the evap connected properly and it matches the evap type of the donor year, the referee will most likely ignore the monitor status. every referee is different so there is no way to know until you go. I can tell you this, the cleaner the engine swap, the more likely you are to pass
