Single gear driven T-case streangth
« on: Aug 16, 2016, 11:25:35 AM »
Hey guys
It has been a really long time since my last post here.
But I am struggling with something and I really can't let it go.

I have a dual case setup with 23 spline input on the first case and 4.70 gears in the second. I believe the output is heat treated rather than chromoly.

This setup I was planing to put behind a Chevy 350 tbi and using it for offroad snow wheeling here in Iceland.

But since I built this a lot has changed. There have been a few years since my last snow trip and most of my wrenching I do now  a days is with my buddyīs formula offroad truck.

I plan to build a formula offroad buggy and compete next summer. Probably for starters in the stock class.
My plan is to use that chevy 350 as it is perhaps put a turbo on it and see what happens.   I have been browsing around trying to decide on what t-case I want to use behind that engine.
And I always come back to this.... why not use a Toyota T-case and see if that can take the beating.

I was thinking if I use a t-case with stock gears, 23 spline input and that heat treated output shaft. That case will probably never see low range just 4wd high range.
It will be sitting behind a built 700r4

Now please give me your thoughts
Best regards Bazzi

I would think it could take it as well as any.  And you can certainly get parts.

The only downgrade would be it has a 23 spline input vs 27 spline or 32 spline

I'd probably go the route of a np205 if your going to be running in mostly high range and your running a turbo sbc. Just my $.02

OP,
Does your gear driven TC have a triple or quadruple drilled front output flange?

Mine has the triple and Brandon (MC) tells me the triple is for a 27 spline output shaft where the quad is a 30 spline output.

Thanks.

I havenīt built the case yet....

I am trying to figure out if it is worth the hassle or I should rather look for a used np205 or np241c
