E-Brake sticking?
« on: Jan 08, 2016, 12:01:20 PM »
Hey fellow Toyota owners, I am having an interesting issue with my 85 Pickup that I am not sure of.

Anyway, lets cut to the chase. Yesterday I went snow wheeling and tried to crawl over a little snow bank, when I got up I put my E-brake on, to keep me from sliding or rolling down the bank. After I had done that, I got out, got back in and without even thinking of it, put my truck in 1st gear and tried to go. But, My E-brake was on. The truck died, at that point I realized what a dumb mistake I had made (Yes, I was being a dumbass).

Ever since yesterday, every single time I get out of my truck, I smell brakes. I don't drive with the E-Brake on, so why would the smell still be present? My friend made the comment that my E-Brake cable could be stuck or something.

Any help is appreciated, I feel so dumb for it. I've only made this mistake twice in the almost 2 months I've owned the truck.

Aloha Toybrota

To be honest , we all have done it from time to time.  It happens.

I think Ur friend is pointing U in the right direction.  U might just have one of the pivot points sticking or caught a shoe in the drum.  U might start by backing up & tapping the brakes as U do , U could lucking ? ?

Cralw under Ur truck & check out the cable , the adjustment arm then look at the axle.  The pivot point on a top of the diff , follow the cable down both sides to the backing plate & check the levers there too.

U're just looking to see if the cable is still pulled tight or a wheel cylinder is forcing the pistons out against the shoes.

Hopefully it's that simple.    Best of luck to U.

I have also known ebrake cables to rust up too.  I got a 91 in the shed that won't move at all.  Not locked up at the axle, just locked up in the cable sleeve.
Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!
