It was a different HySteer kit.  I couldn't figure out from where.  New TRE's wouldn't thread into existing link and Rod.  So I got Marlinks for the Marlin TRE's I bought.  The Marlin TRE's didnt fit the arms correctly.  The old rods and ends did.  I just couldn't figure out the threading of old TRE's since they are what needed replacing.

But oh well, it's nice to have new stuff on anyway.  And now I will know what is on it.

Hmm, that's odd. Any hysteer kit that uses Fj80 tre's should work with any brand Fj80 tre's. Marlins tie rod ends aren't specifically made for marlins steering parts, they source and sell a certain brand of Fj80 tre. The ends that marlin sells should fit allpro, trail gear etc. hysteer kits and vice versa.

Not sure what the problem is then.  But I know my castle nut bottoms out, cannot torque (or really even tighten).  All 4 TRE's wiggle a good amount.  So something with fitment is off.  I'll prob take actual measurements in a few days with a caliper.

Have you tried using washers under the castle nut to avoid bottoming out the threads?

Theres either a fault with the TRE's or the taper hole in the arm is too deep. For reference, the taper should be 1 in 10, ie the hole grows 1 inch in diameter in every ten of depth. The small end of the hole should be 14mm if your using fj80 TRE's so that as soon as the thread ends it should be pulling at the taper.

Have you tried using washers under the castle nut to avoid bottoming out the threads?

Did you sell that arm?

I'll check the 14mm at the bottom of the hole of the arm.  New arms should be here next week anyway so if its off Im not gonna worry about washers unless the new 25mm arms require it.  Which im guessing won't be the case.

And yes it is not grabbing at the taper, the TRE 'post' is thinner all the way thru the Arms hole.. I know that wihtou measuring.  Will post once everything is working correctly so if somebody else has similar issue they know what my problem was.

Thanks for all the advice everbody.

I'm thinking!!  That your old TRE's are for a 1 ton.  I know 4x4lab sells steering with either the FJ80 or 1 ton TRE's.  It says they are close, but just enough of a difference.  Which might be the issue you are running into.  Try calling 4x4Labs and see what they got to say.  From my search, it says they are very knowledgeable in this area.

Think this maybe the issue!!

i need to confirm still  but....

turns out it is probably a hysteer kit using Chevy 1-Ton Rods and ends.  They are bigger at every point so that's why the FJ80 TRE's slipped through the steering arm holes.

Once confirmed at least I know I have a Chevy 1-Ton HySteer Kit for back up.
