change square to round headlights
« on: Nov 19, 2013, 12:03:38 AM »
I am trying to find info about how to change my square headlights on the 85 to round headlights? I understand I need the round bezel and the grille too? Are the plugs the same?
I searched but keep coming up short (I get close on what am trying to find but no info about it just before and after pics)

Thanks, so I just get the round headlights and the round bezel/door. It would be kool to have round lights yay! I am going to start looking for some.
Is the old school grille from 79-83 will it work can i remove the ornage marker lights and just run these?

I used the bezels with hids in my build. they were not a direct bolt in as I remember. One or two of the screw holes didnt line up so I had to fab up some brackets.

Thanks for the help. and advice. Oh okay, I forgot the 82-83 had square. If I can get 79-81 parts and grille it would look so good. Might have to opt out for the 85 grille though.  I hope I can make it work.
Also the side markers on the 79-81 I wonder if I could use them too instead of the huge 85 ones.

You may already have this covered, but in case you're interested we carry some pretty nice Round Headlights for this:

With the headlight door pigtail is square? I have round pigtail 85' marker lights. Is there a way to fix this or do the factory ones have round pigtails?
I would like to have the other marker lights work to make it all work. I see that the other pigtail for the headlights on 85' are square and I assume the round on 79 have square pigtails?

Do you have any details on what to cut and splice together?

I would think you would also need the headlight bucket.

You do, but I think his question was about the electrical part.

Just splice on the connector from your old onto your new one.

I guess am confused by this. My old connector 85' year, splice it and then add the square one to that wiring? Am not sure what to splice or how to even do this. Or did you meant take the new one and make it fit into the round connector?

Does the headlight bucket translate to headlight door or headlight bezels? Or is this a different part?

Splice your 85 connector onto the replacement part.

The headlight door is the trim that surrounds the lamp. The headlight bucket is the part that cradles the lamp, the adjusters connect to the bucket.

I am not sure if you ever got all the info for this, but I have done it.... I do want to say that it wont look right due to the corner lenses... even with the correct era bezels.... I just didn't even use bezels, and I liked it...... I don't remember, but I am pretty sure I did not have to hack any of the wiring....

I *think* I had to drill a couple holes somewhere, and also possibly make some screws or bolts with nuts work
